About Us

The Dover Delaware Think Tank has been created as a collective initiative by academics and experts in the field to collect and generate data for the purpose of economic regeneration and economic development. The aim of the DDTT is to serve as a resource of current information and data that can help stimulate investment and to invite investors to accelerate the pace of economic development by identifying needs to create parallel projects to these needs, implementing solutions to actual economic problems.
We believe that the development of one sector alone is not going to solve the city’s problem, as all sectors correlate with each other. For example, the development of tourism can benefit Dover’s downtown development by increasing the number of visitors and shoppers to the area. The DDTT is a not for profit organization with no political affiliation, inclusive rather than exclusive, with emphasis on the environment, innovation and technology.

We strongly advocate that the new central bus terminal must be adjacent and connect to Dover’s train station. The increase in gas and oil prices has made a public transport connection between Dover and Wilmington an urgent issue. Indeed, we believe that such a connection must be a priority and that it must be in service as early as 2007. It will help people commute quickly and easily to work between these two important economic centers in the State and benefit both employers and employees in the 21st century. It will also help new job seekers to venture more rapidly towards Wilmington in the short term, while new business infrastructure is built in Dover for the long term. It is a win/win situation for the citizens who do not have any means of transportation.

A transport connection of this sort is not wishful thinking but a challenge to make things happen. We would like you to add your voice to the equation and tip the balance toward positive thinking. Your contribution is extremely appreciated and most kindly welcome.

We also advocate increased collaboration between government departments, which can only increase and enhance economic development and regeneration that benefit all segments of the economy. Nor do we see ecology as a threat to investment. Indeed, we believe that environmentally friendly solutions will not be a burden on the economy and that innovation and environment can go hand in hand to benefit all spectrums of the community.

Our philosophy of economic expansion is based on our primary premise about economic regeneration and development:

“Cities alone can build economies; Dover is no exception and does not have to attach itself to a satellite economy in order to survive. Mistakes in the past are that long term planning has been ignored for the sake of quick return on investment for the short term, creating a negative domino effect of job loss and lack of new and serious business and industry opportunities.”

Dover can regenerate itself from within for the short term, while planning for the future in the long term. By adopting creative solutions and strategies with total collaboration and participation of all stakeholders who share an entrepreneurial drive, we can focus on solutions and pull all resources in one direction.

We believe that academic institutions are the catalysts for positive change and transformation. We have an historical opportunity and moral obligation to lead the way. Therefore, we urge you to collaborate with the DDTT by appointing your delegate or representative to the executive board to compare notes, share information, and discuss accurate data for real projects. All delegates can chair discussions by rotation and by institution in a democratic way. We aim at making the DDTT a unique pan academic institution in Delaware for research and development in economic expansion and growth.

The theory behind DDTT is the necessity to create the correct data that can help in identifying problems of economic dimension that can be measured and serviced throughout related projects, which can be estimated, budgeted, and later executed. Our message is a message for the urgency of unity that produces solutions for the most pressing issues. It is history in the making, in which we cordially invite you to share and to make it your own.
